Murray Mint

So, after 74 years a Brit has made it to the men's Wimbledon Finals. Bunny Austin was the last man to reach the final in 1938 with Fred Perry winning the title in 1936.

Andy Murray came through to beat Tsonga to win 3 sets to 1. He started amazingly, had a dip in the third set and then pulled it back in the fourth.

Already as I write this, just a couple hours after the win, the pressure on him is starting. He was congratulated no less than 3 times on live tv during 'The One Show' and is currently breaking news on the BBC website, knocking other world news off the top spot.

Sue Barker couldn't control her excitement, Tim Henman was gracious in his applause and Murray himself, well in his post match interview on a scale of 1 to 10 his own excitement hardly reached 0.5. Which was 10 times more excited than the reaction of his coach Lendl.

The next 36 hours will be tough. The papers will have pictures splashed over the front page, expecting Murray to shine through the damp weather, to carry the nations expectations. This is his year, this is his chance!

My opinion. He is just a guy doing his job. He does not deserve our expectations or indeed our disappointment if he does not beat one of the best tennis players of all time on Sunday. I'm sure that he will do his best and that is all that matters.

He's already done good - a place in the Wimbledon finals carries a prize of £575,000. Not a bad day at the office.

  1. More concerning, Ed, is the fact that you must have watched the one show to know Murray was congratulated at least three times!
