Go Team GB, and go your friends and family

The Olympics are in full swing and there have been some fantastic moments. Not all of Team GB have lived up to the hopes and hype of the media and some athletes have not reached their own high expectations. However, no one can doubt the effort and determination of every single athlete.

Their best is all that can be asked of any athlete and if another athlete is better on the day then so be it; but if you compete and know that you have tried your best then you can stand proud with your head held high.

There have already been some great moments in these games perhaps epitomised by Bradley Wiggins today following his win as he rode around the crowd looking for his family, wanting to share his achievement with his nearest and dearest. In a pre-recorded interview he explained that being a top cyclist is not compatible with family life unless like him your family is so supportive of your dreams.

This sentiment was echoed by Mark Foster in the BBC swimming coverage last night when he described how without a Mum or Dad supporting their youngster, driving them to the swimming pool, feeding them etc. their would be no Olympic hero. The delight in the face of the father of Chad Le Clos, the South African swimmer who beat Michael Phelps showed how important that support is.

Sometimes it is easy to forget the support that these athletes have in the background. The family and friends that support them through the ups and downs and the cold morning training sessions. They deserve a gold medal.
