Do you have a favourite sleep position? I do. I like to fall asleep lying on my right side with my head resting on the crook of my arm and my leg hanging out of the covers. If I am in that position I can literally fall asleep in less than a minute.

I also find that if I set an alarm for whatever time 9 times out of 10 I will wake a few minutes before the alarm sounds. My favourite time is if I awake about an hour before I need to get up. This is when I can snuggle back under the duvet knowing that I do not quite have to face the new day.

To be honest I'm a bit of a morning person, if there is one thing to be done that day then I can jump out of bed and be wide awake and ready to crack on. I know this kind of behaviour can annoy people bu I find lazying around in bed a bit of a waste of the day. Although to be honest if I am not in my pit by 10.30 at night I do struggle to be at the top of my game the following day.

Strangely one of my favourite places to fall asleep is on a plane. The thing about being on a plane is there is actually not much you can do. You can't get off and most of the time due to drinks, food or duty free you can't get walk about so you may as well sleep. I find the noise of the wind, engines and air conditioning comforting. I never sleep deeply, just fall into a kind of relaxed half sleep still aware of my environment but asleep enough to dream. I usually wake myself up with a snore as the seat position kind of encourages an open mouth and lolling tongue. Not my best look but I guess no one looks their best on a plane journey.

 

One thing I hate about sleeping is snoozing in the middle of the day. The sleep is ok but the taste in ones mouth upon waking is horrid. I guess as I get older the chances of this happening will increase. I just need to make sure that I stay awake on Christmas Day or the inevitable photo will be taken, the one with the paper hat over one eye, gravy stain on the shirt and a slight bit of drool leaking from the corner of the mouth. Just like the ones I used to take of the older generation.

January 2010 and a new craze hit Facebook. Across the social network women started to post colours as their status. Some posted beige, some ivory, some hot pink, some polka dot. Arrr me hearties, it be international pirate day...

Today would have been my Grandad’s 100th birthday. Unfortunately he never made it through the century and the excitement of receiving a birthday wish from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. My grandad died at the notable age of 92 back in May 2013.  I’m not sure what Harry Maurice Eve would have made of the last 6 months, his generation had lived through much worse times than we are currently enduring but I’m sure the lockdowns and social distancing would have irritated him.  So this Blog today is dedicated to a man who quite literally I wouldn’t be here without and who is missed by all who knew him.  My Grandad shares his birthday with an international awareness day. The Autumnal Air Arrives

It is now over two months since the summer solstice, June 20th. Now all of a sudden we seem to have sped through the summer and are just about to screech into September.  The scorching hot days, the late night swim in the English Channel, the fast melting ice cream cones and the sunburnt neck all seem to be a distant memory. Waking up this morning the heating (the thermostat turned right down) kicked in with the gentle whumph of the boiler ignition. I’m not sure if whumph is a word but it is exactly like the onomatopoeic word for my boiler.  Just like the start of Mary Poppins the wind has changed, there is a chill about the place. Autumn is fast taking the place of Summer.
